Different hospitals can have very different policies regarding placenta release. Even if a hospital has a policy in place occasionally you may run into a nurse or doctor who is not familiar with patients taking their placentas home. It is important that you educate yourself on your hospital's policy so you can arrive prepared. No one wants to play placenta protector immediately after giving birth! 




HRplacenta requires the following of all clients:

• Client will notify their provider of their plans to take their placenta home.  
• Client will bring two (2) gallon sized freezer ziploc bags & a small cooler to the hospital 
• Client will remind hospital staff of plans for the placenta upon arrival.
• Client will have someone double bag the placenta, place it inside the cooler and cover it with ice within 2 hours of the birth. 
• Client will ensure that the placenta does not leave her sight while in the hospital. 
• Client will arrange for transportation of placenta back to their home for encapsulation.

Below you will find the placenta release policies of all our local hospitals. These are requirements that I was given when I called into each hospital L&D. If you have any questions regarding the policies please talk with your care provider.
