Placenta Encapsulation benefits include a balance of hormones, decreased chance of the baby blues and postpartum depression, increased milk production, and an increase in energy.
Can I bring my placenta home from the hospital?
Yes, I have reached out to all of our area hospitals in Hampton Roads. Each of them will allow you to take your placenta home. Inform your midwife or OB of your plans to bring your placenta home. You may need to sign a waiver and bring a container to transport it home in.
Can I encapsulate my placenta if I am being induced or having a cesarean section?
Yes, you can still encapsulate! induction nor C-Sections will interfere with the encapsulation process.
Is my placenta safe to encapsulate if I am GBS+?
Yes, you can absolutely encapsulate your placenta if you are GBS+. The process I use to encapsulate your placenta is known as the traditional method. This involves steaming and dehydrating the placenta at a food safe temperature to be sure no harmful bacteria is transferred to your capsules. If your provider has any concerns please encourage them to reach out to me.
Where do you encapsulate my placenta?
You have a choice in your preparation location. I can pick up your placenta to prepare it in my freestanding commercial kitchen that is dedicated exclusively to placenta encapsulation or you may choose to have me prepare your placenta in your home kitchen. Neither option is superior and both options provide full transparency throughout your process. I also use the same strict sanitation methods no matter the location.
How long does the process take?
In-Home- The process takes 2 sessions. The first portion of my work will take me approximately 1 hour. I will leave the placenta to dehydrate for 8-12 hours. The second portion of my work will take me approximately 45 minutes. I will clean and sanitize my work area and all of my reusable equipment after each session.
Dedicated Kitchen- I will have your capsules back to you within 48 hours of pick up.
Do I need to provide anything?
You will need to bring a small insulated cooler and 2 gallon sized ziplock bags to the hospital.
